Description

This knitting pattern provides step-by-step instructions on how to create a baby hat with adorable earflaps – a beautiful and personal gift for a newborn just entering the world.

Paired with a lace merino wool blanket and matching socks, it makes a perfect baby shower gift.

Sizes and recommendations:

  • Size 0 – Preterm newborn (before 40 weeks)
  • Size 1 – 0–3 months
  • Size 2 – 3–6 months

The knitting pattern is based on a specific gauge, so it is important to match the given gauge.

Gauge after blocking: 10 cm = 24 stitches / 4 in = 24 stitches

Materials:

  • Circular needles that match your gauge. The sample was knit using US 2 (2.75 mm) and US 3 (3.25 mm) needles with a cable approx. 16-18 in (40-45 cm long). If you don’t have these sizes, try US 2.5 (3 mm) or US 4 (3.5 mm) needles –  remember, everyone’s tension is different.
  • Double-pointed needles (DPNs), US4 (3.5 mm)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch markers
  • Yarn: Drops Merino Extra Fine (50 g / 105 m = 1.8 oz / 115 yd) or similar yardage, preferably merino. Approx. 45 g (1.6 oz) needed
  • Row counter (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape
