My Favorites — Fluffy Yarns and Mohair!
It has so many advantages that it’s hard to stay indifferent.
- Less yarn needed. Compared to smooth wool, mohair uses much less. It’s voluminous and covers a larger area, saving material. For example, a size M sweater made from wool might need 500–600 g of yarn, but for mohair, a single skein of 300 g is enough. For a cardigan in two strands – 175–250 g.
- Fluffy yarns are especially warm and light. Mohair, cashmere, and alpaca not only feel wonderful but also insulate heat well, keeping you comfortable even in cool weather.
- Knits with fluffy yarns look particularly elegant. Lace patterns become airy and feminine, while textured stitches add unique dimension and expression.
- Mohair can be combined with other yarns. It can be blended with cotton, merino, lurex, or even sequins to achieve a modern and stylish result.
- Hides knitting mistakes. If there’s a small inaccuracy, the fluffiness of mohair masks it, so the knitting still looks beautiful — perfect for beginners!
- Mohair knits always look luxurious. They give a special charm and coziness to any outfit, making it both festive and elegant.
- Knitting with mohair is pure pleasure. It’s incredibly soft and pleasant to touch, making the knitting process more enjoyable and meditative.
- Mohair knits are durable. With proper care, they keep their shape and appearance for years, meaning your effort is worthwhile!
Mohair isn’t just beautiful — it’s also a practical choice that makes knitting even more exciting. Have you tried knitting with mohair yet?
