Headband – A Perfect Cold-Weather Accessory
The headband is a fantastic accessory for cold weather, keeping you warm while looking feminine, without ruining your hairstyle. It is wide, soft, and comfortable.
The headband is knit in the round, in a tubular shape. The shorter ends are sewn together at the end, creating an “X” twist.
Size:
- Fitted size
- Finished headband dimensions:
- Width: 13.5 cm
- Length before sewing: approximately 5 cm shorter than the head circumference (head circumference 58 cm, headband knit 53 cm long)
Gauge:
-
10 cm = 21 x 30 stitches in stockinette stitch, after washing
Yarn:
- Drops Air 50 g / 150 m
- Drops Kid Silk 25 g / 210 m, one strand
(It can also be knit using only Drops Air. I added the mohair because I love warmth and enjoy how the colors blend to create a completely new tone.)
(To knit a 53 cm long headband, I used one skein of each yarn – total headband weight 73 g)
Needles:
-
Circular needles size 4.5 mm (recommended). Gauge may vary, so check your stitches per 10 cm: if you have more, use larger needles; if fewer, use smaller needles.
Other supplies needed:
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- 2 stitch markers
- Row counter, if needed
- Measuring tape
